Call for Papers: Conference on "Europe, Asia and the Changing Global Economy"

14 - 15 January 2025 in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of Finland Institute for Emerging Economies (BOFIT) are jointly organizing a conference on “Europe, Asia and the Changing Global Economy” on 14 - 15 January 2025 in Hong Kong.

In the past decade, the global economy has experienced significant transformation, driven by evolving trade and investment policies, the energy transition and technological advancements. These changes are redefining economic interdependencies and reshaping production networks, trade patterns, and financial flows. In this context, the economic relationship between the euro area, Asia, and China in particular, will be subjected to many changes, influencing their roles in the world economy. Economic policies including monetary policy, must adapt to these shifts. The conference will explore the emerging trends of these evolving relationships and their broader implications. We invite submissions on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Trade and financial linkages between the euro area, China and Asian region
  • The changing economic landscape and its implications for business cycles and policy coordination
  • The post-pandemic “new normal” for growth in China and beyond
  • Asia’s impact on the world economy
  • Monetary policies and their global spillovers
  • Economic dependencies in the energy transition
  • Financial innovations and their prudential policy implications
  • The future of the international monetary system

All submissions should be sent by email to hkimr(at)hkma.gov.hk in PDF format, using the authors’ names as the file name, and enter "Submission for HKIMR-ECB-BOFIT Joint Conference on 14-15 January 2025" as the email subject line by 31 October 2024.  Only the author of accepted papers will be notified by 22 November 2024.
